Rain Song

If you are going to abduct

my sun, at least leave me

the rain.

Gift me the the privilege

of damp discomfort,

thunderous grey,

and bitter, spitting showers.

If I cannot be bright,

let me sulk for hours

in the hammering fury

of the rain. I will get by

on stormy skies – if I cannot shine,

I will hiss out my pain.
